March 2020 – Update

By Jessica Ridder

I hope that you are all safe and well during this unprecedented health crisis.

Over the past few weeks, there’s been so much change. We’re all far into unchartered territory with the advent of COVID-19, but we want to reassure you that when it comes to the property industry, we are taking every precaution we can to protect the safety of our community.

We have welcomed the most recent changes announced by the Prime Minister affecting our industry as they are exactly what our group had proposed as being appropriate to help in flattening the curve. On-site and in room auctions, along with open for inspections, have been banned as of midnight Wednesday, 25 March 2020.

We are still working at Ray White Blackheath even though our physical office is closed, we are busy helping new tenants get settled into their homes and dealing with emergency maintenance on rental properties, we are also helping our buyers and sellers complete their sales.

We want to reassure you that property is still selling, there are still buyers in the market who need and want to to buy properties even in the current climate, to cater for this need we are producing virtual tours of all of our properties today so that they can be viewed on the major real estate portals in the country and we are booking one-on-one private inspections. We will also be running private auctions where there is a digital room set up, streaming over devices and accepting bids over phones or via the digital platforms.

There is still very healthy buyer demand and with a reduced amount of listings many vendors are still comfortable proceeding to market. The housing market is still a strong and solid investment for buyers as COVID-19 is not a financial or real estate crisis it is a health crisis.

Once COVID-19 is under control, the housing market is likely to be buoyed by a combination of record-low mortgage rates and the prospect that they will remain at these levels for some time. The current housing market has been fairly robust and not yet affected by COVID 19.

At Ray White we have made whatever shifts are required to comply with legislation and of course maintain safety for our staff and customers, but other than those changes we are continuing with a business as usual approach.
